Located on the heights of St Jean, Le Village St Barth Hotel is a genuine institution of the island. Combining natural charm with a privileged location, its cottages and suites are steps from the beach, shops and restaurants, yet wrapped in calm and authenticity.
Our story
A family hotel since 1969
Le Village St Barth Hotel is located on a breeze-cooled hillside, La Colline de St Jean, on a narrow back-road leading from La Baie de St Jean, the largest and most photogenic bay on St Barts island. St Jean Beach is just a 3 to 5 minute walk down the hill; the adjoining village of St Jean, with a convenient array of stylish boutiques, restaurants and bars, is a lively people-watching venue for both visitors and islanders.
This is one of the features that regular guests prize: they don't have to bother with cars and parking (since the village is small and picturesque, parking space is limited), and everything they need is right there: beach, water sports, cafés, restaurants and boutiques, with St Barts airport just a few minutes away. St Jean's Bay is now the place on St Barts for resort-style buzz and authentic French joie de vivre. For guests who want to tour the island, the charming, red-roofed capital of Gustavia is just 10 minutes away by car, and the remotest beaches are no more than a 30-minute drive away.
The hotel has been welcoming guests since 1969, when it was known as the Village St Jean Hotel. It was conceived, designed and built in a chic Caribbean style by André Charneau and his family; today, it is still owned, managed, cosseted and impeccably maintained by the second generation of Charneaus, Catherine and her brother Bertrand, who literally grew up in the hospitality business.
For the Charneau family, nothing is more important than keeping our guests happy. Making sure that our guests' vacations are truly carefree and relaxing is our top priority, especially the hundreds of 'family' who have been coming back to us year after year, in some cases for more than 20 years.
One way we accomplish this is constant tweaking. We are always fine-tuning and upgrading our beloved hotel so that our guests enjoy that 'great-to-be-back' feeling each time they return. The finest compliment we receive is when long-term guests tell us that, even after all the imperceptible enhancements, the hotel has never lost its soul: that distinctive sense of old-style, unspoiled St Barts.
Of course, another sure way to keep guests happy is to offer exceptional value. 'Always offer rates that are better value than the competition' has always been the Charneau philosophy.
